Georgia Hits the Road to Face Charlotte, Virginia Tech

GAME NOTES
ATHENS, Ga.--- Georgia soccer hits the road for the first time this season as the team travels to take on Charlotte ?on Friday, August 25 at 7 p.m., before continuing onto Blacksburg, Virginia to play the Virginia Tech Hokies ?on Sunday, August 27 at 2 p.m.
"We had to play all of our spring games on the road due to the construction of our complex, so our focus was to become a better road team," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "Now is the first chance for us to prove it when we step out in the regular season. We are looking forward to the challenge as we go up to Charlotte and Virginia Tech to play two really good teams. It's going to be a test of how we've put ourselves together and how we've worked on some ideas of being competitive on the road and in tough environments. We're excited for that challenge."
Georgia opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Wake Forest on Friday, Aug. 18, but bounced back to close out the weekend with a 1-0 win over High Point on Sunday, Aug. 20.
Six Bulldogs made their starting lineup debut during opening weekend, including sophomore Jessie Harvey, senior Alex Pallo, sophomore Katie MacGinnitie, and freshmen Mollie Belisle, Kayla Bruster, and Reagan Glisson. Four additional freshmen came off the bench for Georgia, including Caroline Chipman, Delaney Erwin, Landon Lambert, and Katie Ralys.
Scouting Charlotte: Charlotte advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the conclusion of the 2016 season, after winning the Conference USA Championship. Charlotte fell in the first round to Duke, 3-0. The 49ers return six starters and welcome nine newcomers to the roster.
Scouting Virginia Tech: Sunday marks the first time Georgia and Virginia Tech will play each other in women's soccer. Virginia Tech finished the 2016 season with an 11-5-3 record and 3-4-3 mark in the ACC. The Hokies return 20 players to the field for 2017, including the team's second leading scorer from last season, Alani Johnson.
