ATHENS, Ga. --- South Carolina (29-20, 5-13) came back from a three-run deficit to take game one, 7-5, against the No. 22 Georgia softball team (30-19, 3-16) on Friday night.
Georgia outhit the visitors 12-6, as Cortni Emanuel went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Alyssa DiCarlo tabbed two hits and three RBI while Brea Dickey also added a pair of hits off of two Gamecock pitchers. Jessica Elliott (13-8) earned the win after going the final 3.2 frames with four hits and no runs scored.
Brittany Gray (17-9) took the loss after throwing three frames of relief, allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits and three walks. Kylie Bass started the game, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out five.
After three innings played, Georgia held a slim 3-2 lead, coming back after a pair of SC home runs. The advantage increased in the fourth after a two-RBI single from DiCarlo set the score at 5-2.
The lead erased quickly in the next frame, as four runs crossed the plate for the Gamecocks to put them ahead 6-5 before pushing it to the final score of 7-5 after an error in the sixth.
The series continues on Saturday, as the teams are set for a 2 p.m. ET first pitch on SEC Network+/WatchESPN. The Bulldogs will honor their seniors prior to the game while it is also Strike Out Cancer Day with pink T-shirts available with a donation.
