Georgia Blanks Eagles To Clinch Series

STATESBORO----A trio of Bulldogs combined on a four-hit shutout of Georgia Southern Saturday to clinch a series in front of a J.I. Clements Stadium record crowd of 3,435.
Freshmen Tony Locey and Tim Elliott along with senior Andrew Gist held the Eagles (2-4) in check as the Bulldogs won 7-0 and evened their record at 3-3. Offensively, sophomore catcher Michael Curry provided a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the first inning and junior designated hitter Will Campbell smashed his second home run of the series in third to highlight the early scoring.
Georgia added a single run in the seventh from an RBI by freshman centerfielder Tucker Maxwell and three more Bulldogs crossed the plate in the eighth for the final. The Eagles stranded 10 runners.
Locey (1-1) picked up his first career win, going five innings and striking out six. Elliott pitched 1.2 innings and Gist covered the final 2.1 innings. GSU starter Brian Eichhorn (0-1) allowed three runs on four hits in six innings for the loss.

*Freshman right-hander Tony Locey started and struck out a career-high six in five scoreless innings for his first win of the year.
*Sophomore catcher Michael Curry made it 2-0 with a two-out, two-run double in the first.
*Junior RF Will Campbell (2-for-2) extended his hitting streak to six games with a solo home run over the Batter's Eye. It was his second home run of the series as he's 5-for-7 against the Eagles.
*Georgia turned its first double play of the season to end the fourth frame.

On Georgia's performance:
"We took advantage of some things and played really well today. Overall, you have to be pleased when you win 7-0. Defensively, we made some nice plays around the diamond, and they did too. I thought Tony didn't have his best stuff but he competed well. This was going to be tough start for him because he committed to Georgia Southern as a sophomore and then changed his mind so there was going to be some emotions, and we talked about that. He stayed within himself and showed again he's got a big-time arm. "
