ATHENS-----College of Charleston posted a 15-6 win over Georgia Saturday at Foley Field.

Redshirt freshman first baseman Logan McRae gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the second courtesy of a two-run home run off freshman right-hander Tony Locey. It was his fifth hit of the series and gave him five RBI too. In the third, Dupree Hart smacked a double and scored on a base hit by Erven Roper for a 3-0 advantage.

Georgia (0-2) closed the deficit to 3-1 when sophomore first baseman Adam Sasser responded in the third with a leadoff home run as part of a career best three-hit day. The Cougars loaded the bases to start the fourth and Luke Manzo made it 5-1 with a two-run double to end Locey's outing. Georgia looked to sophomore left-hander Ryan Avidano. The Cougars would plate seven in the frame, capped by a three-run home run by Danny Wondrack for a 10-1 lead. In the fifth, the Cougars added five more runs for a 15-1 advantage. Bulldog sophomore catcher Michael Curry crushed a two-run blast in the eight to make it 15-4.

Sasser smashed his second home run of the day in the ninth to give him three RBI. Also of note, Georgia's final three pitchers of the day combined to go four scoreless frames, two by graduate transfer Shaefer Shepard and one inning apiece in the debut of freshmen Tim Elliott and Justin Glover. Georgia used six pitchers on the day and had 11 walks. The Cougars employed four pitchers and they did not walk a batter.

Cougar reliever Kris Kuhn picked up the win, going 2.2 innings in relief of Carter Love who started and went 4.1 innings. Locey (0-1) allowed seven runs on five hits in three innings and Avidano surrendered eight runs on four hits in 1.2 innings.

He added a double in the fifth and a two-run home run in the ninth. Sophomore Michael Curry connected for his first home run of the year and 12th of his career Saturday.

*Freshman catcher Austin Biggar went 2-for-3 including an RBI-double in his debut.

Coach's Corner

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin

On Georgia's performance:

"Our pitching has not been very good the first two games, and it's a little discouraging to see, because we're better than that. Offensively, I thought we swung the bat okay. We out-hit them, you don't usually see a 15-6 game and a team that scored six out hit the team. They didn't walk us one time, they didn't give us free bases. We gave them free bases."

On pitching:

I was really encouraged with the way Timmy Elliott and Justin Glover threw. I thought they threw the ball really well. Shaefer Shepherd gave us a few innings. But you just can't spot them the runs that we gave them. The first five or six innings, you really can't play much worse, and we've done it two nights in a row.

"I think the offense needs to get jumpstarted by our pitching staff. Our pitching staff needs to improve. Chase Adkins needs to come out here and by the kind of guy we think he can be. We haven't had two really good starts. We need to have a good start by Chase Adkins, and that will get a lot of things going."

On moving forward:

"This is a good baseball team. We are far from showing it right now, and it's hard to take and hard to swallow but I know there's a good baseball team in that locker room, they're just not playing very well right now."
