Opening Tip - Notes To Know Heading Into The Game

  • A total of 4,827 students (grades 2nd-5th) from 14 elementary schools in the Athens-Clarke County School District will enter Stegeman Coliseum Tuesday morning to watch the Lady Bulldogs play. Georgia hosts Howard at 11 a.m. ET in a contest that will air live on SEC Network +.
  • The Lady Bulldogs face a quick turnaround for Tuesday's contest. By the time Georgia and Howard tip off, it will have just been 44 hours since the Lady Bulldogs took down Georgia Tech, 60-53, on Sunday. Following the Howard contest, Georgia has a one-day break before hosting Wright State on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.
  • These two teams have met just twice prior to Tuesday. Georgia and Howard played a home-and-home in 1987 and 1989, with the Lady Bulldogs taking commanding wins in both games.
  • Georgia enters the game after beating Georgia Tech, 60-53, on Sunday. The win against the then-9-1 Yellow Jackets improved the Lady Bulldogs' record against Tech in Athens to 16-0 all-time.
  • Senior forward Mackenzie Engram is Georgia's leading scorer and rebounder this season. Engram has scored in double figures in nine of 10 games and has already matched her double-double total from a season ago with two this year.
  • The Lady Bulldogs relied on a pair of freshmen guards down the stretch against Georgia Tech. Que Morrison and Gabby Connally were on the floor for most of the fourth quarter, with Connally playing eight minutes and Morrison adding seven minutes. Connally played a key role, scoring six of Georgia's 14 fourth-quarter points.

Last Time Out

The Lady Bulldogs used a second-half surge to outlast the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 60-53 Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum.

After being down 29-26 at the half, Georgia outscored Georgia Tech 20-7 in the third quarter en route to the win.

"That was fun," Georgia head coach Joni Taylor said. "I thought it was great momentum. We were able to get some stops, get a shot clock violation and bear down defensively. We executed off the press, and were able to get some easy baskets which fueled our confidence."

Spearheading the Lady Bulldogs was senior forward Mackenzie Engram, who posted her second double-double of the season and seventh in her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also tacked on a career-high four assists. Also scoring in double digits were junior forward Caliya Robinson (12) and freshman Gabby Connally (10). Robinson added five rebounds and collected two blocks, her seventh game this season with at least two blocks.

Georgia Beats Tech For 35th Time

The Lady Bulldogs won their sixth game in the last seven contests against Georgia Tech with a 60-53 win on Sunday. The victory, which improved Georgia's record to 16-0 against Tech in Athens and 35-5 overall, also gave the Lady Bulldogs a crucial win against a team with a top-40 RPI. Georgia now has four victories -- Virginia, Mercer, BYU and Georgia Tech -- against teams that won 20 or more games last season.

Georgia Unselfish With the Ball, Among League Leaders in Assists, Blocks and Steals

Head coach Joni Taylor's squad ranks among the SEC's best in assists (3rd), blocks (3rd) and steals (7th) this season. Georgia's guards, aided by the emergence of newcomers Taja Cole, Gabby Connally, Que Morrison and Maya Caldwell, average 17.3 assists per game, which is the third-best average in the league. Cole has been the catalyst for the Lady Bulldogs. She is second in the conference in assists and is sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio with 52 assists and 22 turnovers this season.

It Starts With Defense Under Taylor

Georgia prides itself on defense, and that has paid off this season. The Lady Bulldogs have held two opponents (BYU and Furman) to their season lows in scoring and three to their season lows in field goal percentage (BYU, Furman and Georgia Tech). BYU shot a season-low 35.1 percent from the field, while Furman hit just 27.3 percent and Georgia Tech shot at a 29.7 percent clip. In all, the Lady Bulldogs are 17-0 under Coach Taylor when holding an opponent to 50 points or less.

7-0 Start Best In Joni Taylor Era

The Lady Bulldogs, which currently sit at 9-1 this season, jumped out to a 7-0 record to begin the year, marking the best start in the Joni Taylor era. In Taylor's first season, her team started 12-1 in non-conference play en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance and 21-10 final record. Georgia is 30-8 in non-conference games under Coach Taylor.

Veteran Frontcourt Leads Lady Bulldogs

Georgia's seasoned frontcourt of Mackenzie Engram and Caliya Robinson lead Georgia in both scoring and rebounding this season. Engram has scored in double figures in all but one game (5 points vs. Tennessee Tech), while Robinson has hit the double-figure scoring mark in all but two contests this year.

Robinson Named to Naismith, Katrina McClain Award Watch Lists

Lady Bulldog junior forward Caliya Robinson has received national attention for her efforts on the court. Among the SEC's returning leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, Robinson was named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year Watch List, joining 50 of the top players from around the country. Before the season started, she was tabbed a Katrina McClain Award Watch List candidate, placing Robinson's name among the top 20 power forwards from across the country.

A Top-10 Shot Blocker

Robinson has moved into the top-10 of the Lady Bulldogs' career blocked shots leaders. In just 67 games, Robinson has 147 blocks (2.2 per game), which ranks eighth-best in Lady Bulldog history. Perhaps even more impressive is that Robinson has done this in just 67 career games. It took Tasha Humphrey (who is currently in10th place with 119) 126 games, while Anne-Marie Armstrong (in ninth place) recorded 122 blocks in 133 contests.

Georgia's Clark Already A College Graduate

A three-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Haley Clark graduated in just three years and received her diploma from UGA during graduation ceremonies this past May. Clark received her bachelor's degree in business and finance and is pursuing a master's in financial planning. One of her career goals is to work in corporate finance and help other athletes with financial planning.

Clark, Engram Earn Leadership Awards

Haley Clark and Mackenzie Engram enter their senior seasons as the leaders for the Lady Bulldogs. That leadership ability did not go unnoticed by the UGA Athletic Association this past spring, as both Clark and Engram received awards recognizing their efforts in leadership and sportsmanship. The announcement was made at the annual student-athlete awards banquet in April.

Clark received the UGA Athletics Sportsmanship-Ethics Award, which is given annually to one female and male student-athlete who are selected based upon their displays of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, friendship, caring and citizenship. Engram was chosen for the Clifford Lewis Leadership Award - an honor presented to one female student-athlete who demonstrates a commitment to a group of individuals above personal gain.
