Opening Tip - Notes To Know Heading Into The Game

  • Georgia looks to keep its unbeaten record intact when the Furman Paladins visit Stegeman Coliseum Thursday evening for a 7 p.m. ET tip on SEC Network +.
  • Thursday's contest marks the seventh-straight year these two teams have met. The Lady Bulldogs lead the all-time series 13-0 with the first game in the series dating back to 1975.
  • Georgia's 6-0 start is the best of the Joni Taylor era. The Lady Bulldogs started 5-1 in Taylor's first season en route to an NCAA Tournament berth.
  • The Lady Bulldogs have played well defensively over the last stretch of games, holding BYU to its season-low point total and field-goal percentage (35.1 percent) while Tennessee Tech scored just 48 points Monday night. Under Coach Taylor, Georgia is now 16-0 when holding an opponent at or below 50 points.
  • With her perfomance on Monday, junior Caliya Robinson went over 400 rebounds and 100 assists in her career. Robinson is now one of just eight active players in the SEC to have over 500 career points, 400 career rebounds and 100 career assists. The Preseason All-SEC selection was named to the Katrina McClain Award Watch List for the top power forward in the nation earlier this year. On Wednesday, Robinson was named to the Citizen Naismith National Player of the Year Watch List.
  • Freshman guard Maya Caldwell has been on a hot streak at Stegeman Coliseum. Caldwell scored 11 points against Western Carolina before scoring 12 against Tennessee Tech. Over the last two home games, Caldwell has hit 59 percent (10-of-17) of her shots and totaled seven rebounds.

Robinson Named To Naismith, Katrina McClain Award Watch Lists

Lady Bulldog junior forward Caliya Robinson has received national attention for her efforts on the court. Among the SEC's returning leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, Robinson was named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year Watch List, joining 50 of the top players from around the country. Before the season started, she was tabbed a Katrina McClain Award Watch List candidate, placing Robinson's name among the top 20 power forwards from across the country.

A Top-10 Shot Blocker

Robinson has moved into the top-10 of the Lady Bulldogs' career blocked shots leaders. In just 63 games, Robinson has 135 blocks (2.1 per game) and needs six more to move into a tie with Porsha Phillips, who had 141 in her career. Perhaps even more impressive is that Robinson has done this in just 63 career games. It took Tasha Humphrey (who is currently in10th place with 119) 126 games, while Anne-Marie Armstrong (in ninth place) recorded 122 blocks in 133 contests.

Strong Start, Best Offensive Output Since 2007-08

Through its first five games, Georgia scored 386 total points, marking the best offensive output to start a season since 2007-08, when the Lady Bulldogs scored 402 points through the first five contests. Veterans Mackenzie Engram and Caliya Robinson currently lead the team in scoring, while a trio of newcomers in Que Morrison, Taja Cole and Gabby Connally rank 3,4 and 5 respectively in scoring this season.

Morrison's Debut Among Best For UGA Freshmen

Que Morrison's 19-point effort in the season-opener against Wofford puts her name among a prestigious group of Lady Bulldog freshmen. Morrison's total is the most for a Georgia rookie in a season-opening game since Tasha Humphrey scored 25 versus Furman at the beginning of the 2004-05 season.

Freshmen Step Up At crucial time

In the final 10 seconds of the game at Virginia it was two freshmen guards that stepped to the line and sealed the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Gabby Connally was fouled with just nine seconds remaining and sunk two-straight to put her team up 62-58. After the Cavaliers hit a long 3-pointer on the next possession, Que Morrison knocked in two-straight free-throws to give her team a 64-61 lead with five seconds remaining.

Lady Bulldogs Unselfish With The Ball

Even though it is still early in the season, Georgia ranks among the SEC's best in assists (1st with 20.0 per game) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4). The Lady Bulldogs' guard play has been aided by transfer point guard Taja Cole, whose 5.8 dimes per game ranks second in the league behind Morgan William from Mississippi State.

Georgia's Clark Already A College Graduate

A three-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Haley Clark graduated in just three years and received her diploma from UGA during graduation ceremonies this past May. Clark received her bachelor's degree in business and finance and is pursuing a master's in financial planning. One of her career goals is to work in corporate finance and help other athletes with financial planning.

Renewed Stegeman Creates New Environment

Lady Bulldog faithful might notice a few changes when they enter Stegeman Coliseum this season. An $8-million renovation concluded this past summer and is considered a huge success in enhancing the game day experience. The Coliseum's updated "look" features new black seats, an improved LED lighting system, a state-of-the-art sound system and graphics above the horseshoe end celebrating past teams and retired jerseys. What will catch spectators' eyes immediately, however, is the addition of a massive center-hung scoreboard. All of the aforementioned, coupled with considerably more LED graphics panels, will greatly enhance the atmosphere within the venue.
