Tardy Invited To Curtis Cup Practice Session

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Bailey Tardy is one of a dozen golfers the International Team Selection Committee of the United States Golf Association has invited to a practice session in advance of the 2016 Curtis Cup. The session will be held Dec. 18-19 at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.
The Curtis Cup Match is contested by two teams of eight female amateur golfers, one from the United States and one from Great Britain and Ireland. Robin Burke, the 1997 U.S. Women's Amateur runner-up and a member of the 1998 U.S. Curtis Cup Team, will serve as captain of the Americans.
"It's a great honor to be a part of the 12 who have been invited," Tardy said. "There were a lot of great golfers who didn't make this 12. Hopefully, I can out there and have a good showing and become part of the eight. Being a part of the Curtis Cup has been a big goal of mine for a long time and something I definitely wanted to be part of during college. I'm very excited to have this opportunity."
The 2016 Curtis Cup Match will be June 10-12 at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Enniskerry, Ireland.
Tardy, a 5-8, freshman from Peachtree Corners, Ga., who attended Norcross High School, enjoyed a stellar summer or amateur play and followed that with a very strong effort in her first fall collegiate campaign at Georgia. She is currently No. 10 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Last summer, Tardy won the 113th North & South Amateur and a U.S. Women's Amateur qualifier before eventually reaching the round of 16 of match play at the Am.
This fall, Tardy posted three top-10 and four top-20 individual finishes for the Bulldogs. She won the Windy City Collegiate with a school-record score of 12-under 204. Over 11 rounds in the fall, Tardy was a combined 8-under and led Georgia in stroke average (71.27) and birdies (48).
"Bailey has really had a great last 18 months of golf ever since she qualified for the U.S. Open as a junior in high school," Georgia coach Josh Brewer said. "She really hasn't looked back and has continued to build on that. She had a wonderful summer and an outstanding fall. She has definitely earned the right to have a chance to represent the United States and be a part of a very special team."
Georgia golfers have participated in the Curtis Cup seven times. Terri Moody (1980), Cindy Schreyer (1986), Vicki Goetze (1990, 1992), Angela Jerman (2002) and Taylor Leon (2006) represented the U.S., while Krystle Caithness played for the GB&I in 2008.
