ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia golfers Amira Alexander and Manuela Carbajo Ré will represent the U.S. Virgin Islands and Argentina, respectively, in tournaments this week. Alexander will play in the Central American and Carribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico, while Carbajo Ré will compete in the Copa Los Andes in Cordoba, Argentina.

"It's a great honor to represent a country, and I think this will be a very valuable experience for Amira and Manuela," head coach Josh Brewer said. "It helps them to continue to prepare for the spring. Golf is an individual sport but in this instance and in college golf it's a team sport too. Both Amira and Manuela had good starts to the season in the fall and this opportunity should help keep them sharp. They get the opportunity to where a few hats and represent a few different people - both Georgia and a country."

Alexander will be representing the U.S.V.I. for the third time this year. Over the summer, she finished third at the Caribbean Amateur in Puerto Rico and placed 27th at the World University Games in Switzerland. The Central and Caribbean Games will feature competition in 36 different sports. The golfing portion will be a 72-hole stroke play event contested on Nov. 26-29 at Punta Tiburon Golf Club.

"I'm very honored to represent the U.S. Virgin Islands," Alexander said. "There's a great sense of pride I have because it's my family's home country and I know a lot of people are looking up to me and pulling for me. There will always be butterflies, representing a country, but maybe not as much as the first two times. I think I know what to look for now that I've done it twice, but this will be a new experience. I think it's going to be pretty cool that different sports will be there. The last two times, there were only a couple of us. This time, there will be athletes from other sports representing the U.S. Virgin Islands, too, so I'm looking forward to meeting new people and seeing how they train and pulling for them to do well."

The Copa Los Andes represents the South American Team Championships and will be contested Nov. 26-29 at the Cordoba Golf Club. Carbajo Ré represented Argentina in both the 2010 and 2012 events and also has an extensive resume competing for her country, headlined by winning the 2011 South American Amateur.

"I'm really excited about representing my country once again," Carbajo Ré said. "It's something I take great pride in and I'm thankful for the opportunity. This tournament is always special to me because it is considered one of the best South American tournaments and it brings out a lot of team spirit. It's even more special this year because it is being played in Argentina. I know we've all been practicing a lot and everyone is ready. We want to make this a special tournament since it's in Argentina."
