HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. --- The 17th-ranked Georgia women's golf team posted 294 and 287 tallies in Monday's first and second rounds of the Windy City Collegiate Championship, respectively. The Bulldogs enter Tuesday's final round at Northmoor Country Club in eighth place in the 15-team field.

"It was a good day, overall," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Everyone contributed at least one counting round. We're close. We had three different players shoot par or better today. We keep waiting for a round when four or five scores like that happen at once.

"We didn't get off to the start we wanted to during the morning but 'Manu' had a great round," Brewer added. "I think she showed us all that there was a low number out there. In the afternoon, 'Ro' was 1-under and Sammi was even."

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start in the first round. Georgia played the first six holes 8-over as a team before covering the dozen holes at 2-over. Manuela Carbajo Ré was tied atop the individual leaderboard following a 3-under 68. Additional counting morning rounds came from Rocio Sanchez Lobato (73), Harang Lee (74) and Sammi Lee (79).

Carbajo Ré turned at 1-over by mixing together five pars, birdies at No. 2 and No. 6, a bogey at No. 9 and a double-bogey at No. 5. She played the back side at 4-under. Carbajo Ré returned to even-par with a birdie at No. 10 and then closed with successive red numbers at No. 16, No. 17 and No. 18.

"Manu finished great (in the first round)," Brewer said. "She birdied two par-5s and hit a great shot on the par-3 17th to end her first round at 3-under. I think she may have forced it a bit in the afternoon. She started off with a double bogey and tried to get back to 2- or 3-under really quick. It was a good lesson for her. I'm sure she'll play well tomorrow."

The Bulldogs received five solid scores in the afternoon, counting a 1-under 70 from Sanchez Lobato, an even-par 71 from Sammi Lee, a 72 from Harang Lee and a 74 from Mary Ellen Shuman.

"'Ro' played well all day, which was very nice to see after a couple of good weeks of practice," Brewer said. "It was a great round by Sammi. She needed it. We know she can play, but this should give her a boost of confidence that she can do it on the biggest of stages. We need all of our freshmen to continue to play well if we're going to be as good as we can be."

No. 2 Southern Cal sits atop a tight team leaderboard at 6-under 562. Following the Women of Troy are No. 5 Oklahoma State at 563, No. 10 Arizona at 564, No. 15 Stanford at 567, Northwestern at 571, No. 14 Iowa State at 578, No. 24 Ohio State both at 579, the Bulldogs at 581, No. 12 Florida and Purdue both at 594, No. 22 Louisville at 598, TCU at 599, Minnesota at 606, UNC Wilmington at 619 and Brown at 656.

Southern Cal's Kyung Kim is the individual leader at 5-under, a shot better than Oklahoma State's Julie Yang.

For Georgia, Carbajo Ré and Sanchez Lobato are tied for 14th place at 1-over 143, Harang Lee is tied for 29th at 146, Sammi Lee is tied for 47th at 150 and Shuman is tied for 61st at 155.
