ATHENS, Ga. --- The No. 9-ranked Georgia women's golf team finished second overall in the 40th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic carding a final round 293 on Sunday at the UGA Golf Course. The Bulldogs finished at 2-over 886, 12 shots behind No. 2 Alabama, which finished 10-under par with a tournament record score of 854.

Georgia senior Marta Silva Zamora finished third overall as she carded a final round 72 to finish the tournament 5-under par. Also of note for the Bulldogs, were the performances of Emilie Burger and Rocio Sanchez Lobato, who both finished 1-over par 73 on Sunday and 1-over 217 overall to tie for 15th individually.

"I'm happy with my performance," Zamora said. "It was tough, the girl who won played great and today I didn't play my best so I just finished third, but I'm pretty happy with my game."

The winner of the individual championship was Alabama's Jennifer Kirby who, having started the day top of the leader board, shot a 1-under par 71 on Sunday to deny Silva Zamora on her final appearance at the UGA Golf Course.

"I knew we would need to do something pretty special to give Alabama a run and we didn't quite do that," said Georgia head coach Kelley Hester. "But we did hold our own, and we did finish second, so overall I'm very proud of my girls they finished strong, we had flipped down to fifth at one point there in that final round so I'm proud of them."

Alabama finished at 10-under as a team and eclipsed Georgia's 1999 course record of 872, recorded at a time the course was a par 73. Alabama head coach Mic Potter said that winning the Liz Murphey Classic in a course record was only part of the Crimson Tide's successful week.

"Whenever you have a great field with a lot of SEC teams it's a good win," Potter said. "Our focus is not so much on winning as it is achieving a standard we feel like we can play to, and it's a pretty high one, it's always about attaining that and we came pretty close this week."

Georgia's 'B' team carded a final round 311 to finish the tournament with an overall score of 71-over par. Leading the 'B' squad was Kiara Hayashida who finished tied for 40th individually, carding an overall score of 224 and finishing 8-over par.

The Bulldogs won't play again before the SEC Championships begin on April. 20, in Fayetteville, Ark.
