STANFORD, Calif. --- Georgia's No. 11 women's golf team carded a 9-over 293 in the opening round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice on Friday, putting the Bulldogs in eighth place and seven shots off the lead.

Emilie Burger and Manuela Carbajo Ré led Georgia individually with a pair of even-par 71s. The Bulldogs also counted Rocio Sanchez Lobato's 75 and Kailey Walsh's 76, while dropping a 78 from Collins Bradshaw.

"It was a pretty good first day," said head coach Josh Brewer. "It's a difficult golf course. We had a few loose swings and missed a few putts or we really could be toward the top of the leaderboard. We know we've got a few things to work on this afternoon, but we'll be fine."

Burger's steady day included 14 pars, two birdies at No. 3 and No. 12 and a pair of bogeys at No. 17 and No. 17.

Carbajo Ré spent a majority of her day in red numbers. She was 1-under following a back-and-forth first five holes that included birdies at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 and bogeys at No. 2 and No. 5. Carbajo Ré moved to 2-under with a birdie at No. 10 but gave a shot back at No. 11 and another at No. 14 before wrapping up her loop with four consecutive pars.

"Our top three have been really solid and that's very comforting," Brewer said. "Burger and Manuela have been very consistent and 'Ro' has found a way to put up a good score when her days aren't perfect. If we can continue to get that and get our four and five playing with better consistency, we'll be in good shape. I think we're close. We just missed a few too many putts today or it would've been a really good day."

No. 2 Southern Cal shot 286 to grab the team lead by a shot better over Oregon State. Rounding out the top-10 teams are No. 13 Vanderbilt at 288, Stanford and No. 15 Oklahoma State at 289, No. 7 Arizona State and No. 2 Washington both at 290, the Bulldogs, No. 1 Arizona at 294 and No. 4 UC Davis at 295.

Oregon's Casey Isagawa, Southern Cal's Doris Chen and Oklahoma State's Josephine Janson all shot 2-under 69 and share the top position on the individual leaderboard.

For Georgia, Burger and Carbajo Ré are tied for 10th, Sanchez Lobato is tied for 39th, Walsh is tied for 52nd and Bradshaw is tied for 71st.

The tournament will continue through Sunday, with live scoring updated on a three-hole basis on www.golfstat.com.
