Bulldogs Announce Non-Conference Schedule

ATHENS ---- Four, perhaps five, games against 2010 NCAA Tournament teams and three more post-season opponents from last year highlight the Georgia basketball team's 2010-11 non-conference schedule, announced Tuesday by head coach Mark Fox.
Additionally, as many as seven so-called "major" basketball conferences are represented on this year's slate. This combination should provide plenty of challenge for the 2011 Bulldogs.
"I'm very pleased about the schedule we have put together," Fox said. "We created it to position ourselves for post-season play and I think we were successful in that goal. With eight home games, our non-league schedule should also give our fans plenty to get excited about."
The Bulldogs will get a stern test when they participate in the fifth annual Old Spice Classic during Thanksgiving weekend in Orlando, Fla. They open the tournament by facing Notre Dame on Nov. 25, and they are bracketed with two more NCAA Tournament teams from 2010: Temple and California. The tournament's other bracket features still more NCAA participants from last year: Texas A&M and Wisconsin.
Georgia is scheduled to wrap up a pair of home-and-home series, as well as begin two more. The Bulldogs' Nov. 20 game at St. Louis and their Dec. 3 home game vs. UAB are both return engagements from last season. New series opponents include Colorado - in the Buffs' final year as a Big 12 Conference member - on Nov. 16 in Athens, in addition to Atlantic 10 power Xavier in a Feb. 8 matchup in Athens. The Musketeers have averaged 27 wins over the past four seasons, including an NCAA Tournament victory over Georgia in 2008.
The Bulldogs will renew their annual rivalry with Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Dec. 7. Since the series returned to campus sites in 1995, Georgia is the only visiting team to win, its lone road victory coming in December of 2000.
