Georgia's English Named All-America Scholar

ATHENS, Ga. --- Harris English of the Georgia men's golf team has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, according to an announcement by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

English, a rising senior from Thomasville, was one of the 119 players selected from Division I. With English's appointment, Georgia now has produced 11 student-athletes with 18 All-America Scholar certificates. Georgia has had at least one honoree for each of the past seven years and has produced seven student-athletes with 11 citations under Coach Chris Haack.

English was named a First-Team All-American by Golfweek and was a Second-Team selection by PING and the GCAA. He also earned First-Team All-SEC honors from the league's coaches. English posted a scoring average of 71.86 in 2009-11, notching seven top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments. He won the Olympia Fields Invitational in Illinois and the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Texas. English is majoring in Pre-Business and has a GPA of 3.32. He has been named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll and the Fall Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championship, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. Recipients must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
