ESPN2 To Broadcast Highlights Of SEC Track And Field Championships

ATHENS, Ga. --- ESPN2 will televise highlights and interviews from the 2010 Southeastern Conference Track & Field Championships during a special highlight program on Thursday at 9 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Both the Georgia men and women finished fifth at the conference meet in Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 26-28. This was a three-place improvement from their 2009 indoor finish for the Bulldog men and a six-place improvement for the Lady Bulldogs.
Georgia boasted individual SEC champions in Torrin Lawrence (400-meter dash) and Tommy Barrineau (heptathlon). Senior Bridget Lyons (5000-meter run), sophomore Nikola Lomnicka (weight throw) and freshman Petr Novotny (shot put) also brought runner-up finishes home to Athens. In addition, junior Cory Holman set an SEC Championships meet record in the heptathlon high jump after soaring over the bar at 7 feet, 1 ¾ inches.
Since the SEC meet, Lawrence, whose time of 45.10 also broke an SEC Championships record, was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year.
SEC-TV Weekly, which airs on ESPNU every Tuesday, already featured pieces on Feb. 23 and March 2 highlighting the meet.
