Bulldog Golfers Excel In Yamaha Georgia Women's Open

NEWNAN, Ga. --- Past, present and future Georgia women's golfers turned in solid performances at the Yamaha Georgia Women's Open which concluded Thursday. Jackie (Beers) Szymoniak, a four-year letterwinner from 2003-06, finished as the tournament's runner-up after losing a playoff at the Canongate at Summer Grove Golf Club.
Szymoniak carded rounds of 69 and 70 to finish at 5-under 139 atop the leaderboard, but lost a playoff to Mariah Stackhouse on the first hole of the sudden death playoff.
Three more Georgia golfers finished among the top 10 individuals. Angela Jerman, the 2002 SEC Golfer of the Year, and signee Kendall Wright, who will join the Bulldogs this fall, tied for third at 4-under 140, while signee Emilie Burger tied for seventh at 1-over 145.
In addition, Summer Sirmons, a member of Georgia's 2001 national championship squad, tied for 16th at 153; rising sophomore Tess Fordham was 21st at 156; signee Abby Johnson tied for 22nd at 157; and rising senior Melissa Brody tied for 41st at 172.
