Georgia Golfers Off To Slow Start At Bryan National

Browns Summit, N.C.. --- The No. 8-ranked Georgia women's golf team struggled to a 318 in Friday's opening round of the Bryan National Collegiate, leaving the Bulldogs in 16th place in the 18-team field.
No. 9 LSU carded a 290 to open up a whopping 14-stroke lead on the rest of the field. Tessa Teachman paced the Tigers with a 4-under 68, Friday's only red number among the 96 golfers in the field. No. 3 Virginia and No. 11 Wake Forest are tied for second at 304, while Teachman owns a four-shot lead over TCU's Valentine Derry on the individual leaderboard.
"Obviously, we've got to play better," head coach Kelley Hester said. "It was windy but we really struggled. I don't know any other way to say it. It was a bad day on the golf course. We do have two rounds to work our way up the leaderboard."
For Georgia, Carolina Andrade shot 75 and is among 11 players tied for seventh. The Bulldogs also counted a 79 from Leigh Crosby, an 80 from Mallory Hetzel and an 84 from Melissa Brody. Marta Silva Zamora posted an 87.
In the individual field, Crosby is tied for 50th, Hetzel is tied for 62nd, Brody is tied for 80th and Silva Zamora is tied for 92nd.
The Bulldogs will be paired with No. 19 Ohio State and UNC Greensboro for Saturday's second round. Those teams will tee off in waves from No. 10 beginning at 8:20 a.m. Live scoring for the tournament can be found here.
