Silva Zamora Leads Eat A Peach Collegiate
October 04, 2009 | Women's Golf
“Today wasn’t the best, but hopefully, we can have a better day tomorrow,” head coach Kelley Hester said. “This is a golf course that can be deceptively difficult. It’s not that long, but the greens are really difficult. Kendall (Wright) probably put it best. She said she tried to bully the course and it bit back.”
No. 18 put a damper on an otherwise steady day. The Bulldogs lost five strokes as a team on the closing hole.
Silva Zamora owns a 1-shot lead over four golfers tied for second, with 18 holes to play in the 36-hole event. Georgia also counted a 73 from Carolina Andrade, a 77 from Emilie Burger and a 78 from Wright. The Bulldogs dropped Tess Fordham’s 79. Competing as an individual in her collegiate debut, Georgia’s Abby Johnson shot 74.
“Marta played really well, and Carolina had a pretty solid round,” Hester said.
Silva Zamora started hot with birdies at No. 2 and No. 4. She bogeyed No. 5 but rebounded to birdie No. 6 and eventually turned at 2-under. She dipped to 3-under with another birdie at No. 11 but gave that stroke with a bogey at No. 18.
Overall, Andrade is tied for seventh, Johnson is tied for 12th, Burger is tied for 28th, Wright is tied for 32nd and Fordham is tied for 36th.
Florida State carded an even-par 288 to take the team lead. Coastal Carolina is second at 297, followed by the Bulldogs, Furman at 300, James Madison at 305, Kennesaw State and UCF at 307, Georgia State and Miami (Fla.) at 309, Augusta State at 313, Mercer at 314 and High Point at 322.
There will be three-hole updates of live scoring here during Monday’s final round.
