Caithness Leads Scotland At European Ladies Am

STENUNGSUND, Sweden --- Georgia rising sophomore Krystle Caithness shot 2-under 142 in qualifying rounds of the 2008 European Ladies' Amateur Team Championship on Tuesday and Wednesday, finishing tied for 15th individually in the elite field.
Caithness led Scotland to a tie for fifth place in the 16-team field competing at Stenungsund Golf Course. Scotland will open match play competition as the No. 7 seed against second-seeded Spain on Thursday.
Caithness followed a 4-over 74 on Tuesday with a 4-under 68 on Wednesday as Scotland finished at 7-over 727 and tied with Austria and France. Caithness bogeyed No. 2 but rallied with birdies at No. 4 and No. 9 to turn at 1-under. On the back side, she birdied No. 12, No. 16 and No. 18 to finish with the second-best loop of the day among the 96 competitors in the field.
Top top-eight teams from stroke play qualifying will compete in the championship bracket of match play. Matches will feature a pair of foursome competitions followed by five singles matches.
Caithness, Scotland's No. 1 player, will face Azahara Munoz, who captured the 2008 NCAA individual national championship as a sophomore at Arizona State, in singles play. She will team with Laura Murray to face Munoz and Carlota Ciganda in the No. 1 foursomes match.
