Caithness Third At World Am

Adelaide, Australia --- Georgia sophomore Krystle Caithness carded a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's opening round of the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships, placing her third in the individual field. Caithness is representing Scotland, one of 48 nation's are competing at the Grange Golf Club.

A native of St. Andrews, Scotland, Caithness is among four golfers tied for third, five shots behind the pace of Sweden's Caroline Hedwall. Caithness began the day with five pars before birdies at No. 6 and No. 9 pushed her to 2-under at the turn. A bogey at No. 15 brought her back to 1-under.

Scotland is tied for fourth in the team competition at 3-over.

Teams are comprised of two or three golfers, with the two lowest scores counting. Sweden grabbed a commanding lead over the team field at 9-under. Spain is second at 1-over, followed by Japan at 2-over and Scotland, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Austria and Brazil all at 3-over.
