Orlando, Fla. --- The top-ranked Georgia women’s golf team is in third place following two rounds of play in the UCF Challenge at Grand Cypress Golf Resort on Monday. The Bulldogs bounced back from a season-high 305 in the morning to post a 2-over 290 in the afternoon.
Largely due to a combined 9-under effort from Amanda Blumenherst, No. 4 Duke opened up a commanding 21-stroke lead after 36 holes. Blumenherst leads the individual field by 10 strokes, and she paced the Blue Devils to a 3-under 573 as a team. No. 3 Pepperdine is second at 594, one shot ahead of Georgia at 595. No. 8 Vanderbilt is fourth at 600, followed by No. 23 LSU at 612, No. 15 Florida at 614 and No. 14 New Mexico and No. 17 Purdue at 617.
Sophomore Alina Lee led Georgia’s individual efforts, she is among five golfers tied for second at 1-over 143. Taylor Leon is tied for 11th at 148, Garrett Phillips is tied for 19th at 152, Whitney Wade is tied for 153 and Mallory Hetzel is tied for 51st at 159.
In the morning round, Leon and Lee provided solid rounds for the Bulldogs, carding loops of 71 and 73, respectively. Georgia’s other three golfers all faltered, however, forcing an 80 from Wade and an 81 from Phillips as the Dogs’ other counting tallies. Hetzel posted an 85.
Georgia played much more consistently in the afternoon, counting a 71 from Phillips, a 72 from Lee, a 73 from Wade and a 74 from Hetzel, while Leon shot 77.
