Rolfe Earns SEC Honors For Second Straight Week
March 27, 2007 | Track & Field
Rolfe, a native of Kenmore, Wash., recorded a pair of NCAA regional qualifying marks and two wins over the weekend at the Alabama Relays. Rolfe registered a personal-best effort of 210 feet, 4 inches in the hammer throw to win the event and move to the No. 9 spot in the school record books. In the discus, Rolfe took first with a regional mark of 178-4.
"Nate has stepped right in and become a leader here by putting up big marks week after week. I hate to call certain people the 'best' on our team, but he has no doubt become one of our top guys," said head coach Wayne Norton. "Before he transferred here, he wanted to be part of the SEC and wanted to be a part of Georgia track and field and I think accomplishments like this help validate his decision for coming here. I am very happy for Nate and I am glad he is on our side. I really think this is just the beginning for him."
Since transferring from the University of California - Berkeley during the offseason, Rolfe is ranked sixth in the nation in both the discus and the hammer, according to Trackwire.com.
Rolfe was also named the SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on March 20 after picking up a pair of regional qualifying marks at the Georgia Relays in Athens, including the second-longest discus mark (191-11) in school history.
Rolfe and his teammates travel to Atlanta for the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31. Both Rolfe and senior Jennifer Dahlgren, the defending NCAA champion in the hammer, will open the meet by competing in the hammer at 6 p.m. on Friday.
