Bulldogs Are Seventh At Murphey Classic

ATHENS, Ga. --- The third-ranked Georgia women's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of the 2007 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic being played at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
On Saturday in the second round, the Bulldogs carded a 16-over-par 300. Georgia now is at 35-over 603, tied with Purdue and Alabama for seventh. No. 4 Auburn has the team lead at 24-over 592.
"I feel like we have played as poorly as we have all year, but the good news is we're still in position if we play a good round that we can win the tournament," Georgia head coach Todd McCorkle said. "We have to keep our heads up and fight and compete on Sunday. The first two days have been tough, but we can salvage it by competing and playing well in the last round."
Sophomore Alina Lee paced the Bulldogs on Saturday as she shot an even-par 71. Senior Whitney Wade and sophomore Mallory Hetzel each added 5-over 76s, while junior Garrett Phillips signed for a 6-over 77 and freshman Carolina Andrade had an 8-over 79.
Lee is in 12th place individually at 6-over 148, and she is five shots behind Melissa Eaton LSU (143). Wade is 22nd at 8-over 150, followed by Hetzel in 26th at 9-over 151, Phillips in 43rd at 12-over 154 and Andrade in 57th at 15-over 157.
The teams will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Admission to the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is free. Live three-hole scoring is available through golfstat.com.
