ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia blanked Oregon State for seven innings and then the 15th-ranked Beavers exploded for seven runs in the eighth frame to post a 7-3 victory and remain perfect on the year.
For the Bulldogs (0-2), it was similar to the season opener Friday at Foley Field that saw the Beavers (6-0) score eight runs over the last two innings for a 10-8 win. On Saturday, a crowd of 3,010 watched Jason Leaver blank the Beavers through the first five frames. Georgia took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when senior Jonathan Wyatt (2-for-4, 1 RBI) was hit by a pitch, went to third on a double by Gordon Beckham and scored on a ground out by Joey Lewis. In the sixth, freshman Luke Stewart launched a solo home run off Jorge Reyes and with two outs, Wyatt followed with one of his own for a 3-0 edge. For Stewart, it was his first collegiate hit. Wyatt has seven career home runs including two aainst the Beavers – the one Saturday and one at the 2006 College World Series.
Down 3-0, the Beavers responded with seven runs on six hits off freshman Dean Weaver and sophomore Iain Sebastian. The first three Beavers reached on base hits and then Weaver struck out pinch-hitter Scott Santschi. Then, junior first baseman Jordan Lennerton cleared the bases with a three-run double to the gap in right centerfield. The Bulldogs turned to Sebastian with the game at 3-all. Pinch-hitter Drew George drew a walk and then Koa Kahalehoe gave the Beavers a 4-3 lead with a run-scoring single. Second baseman Joey Wong connected for a two-run triple down the right field line to make it 6-3. OSU would add the final run on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Canham.
