October 17, 2007 | Women's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia women's golf team will wrap up its fall stroke play tournament schedule this Friday-Sunday at the Stanford Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Bulldogs will utilize the same lineup as they did two weeks ago when placing third at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational, with senior Garrett Phillips, juniors Mallory Hetzel and Alina Lee, sophomore Carolina Andrade and freshman Krystle Caithness traveling.
"I think this is a golf course that our team has played well on in the past," head coach Kelley Hester said. "Much like Chapel Hill, it's a good ball-striker's course. It's a solid field in terms of their are some very strong teams like UCLA, Duke and Arizona State so I'm excited to see how we do. We've have a good week and a half of practice, and the girls are excited about the trip."
The Bulldogs finished third at last year's Stanford event. Lee, Hetzel and Phillips were in the lineup a year ago and finished 17th, 36th and 40th, respectively, in the individual field.
Georgia is one of 11 squads in the 18-team field ranked in the latest Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll. Top-ranked Duke headlines that list, which also includes No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 7 Arizona, the No. 9-ranked Bulldogs, No. 12 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 15 Cal, No. 16 New Mexico, No. 21 Stanford and No. 22 Arkansas. Lee sports the Bulldogs' best stroke average at 72.67. She was the individual runner-up in North Carolina, where she shot a career-best 4-under 212. Caithness also finished in the top 20 at the Lady Tar Heel, tying for 16th.
