Green Named Georgia Softball Assistant Coach

July 05, 2006 | Softball

ATHENS, Ga. – Former Georgia All-American Michelle Green has been named an assistant softball for the Bulldogs, according to an announcement Friday by Georgia head coach Lu Harris-Champer.

Green joins the Bulldogs’ staff after helping engineer the best season in N.C. State history in 2006.  The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently tabbed Green and the N.C. State softball coaches as the Staff of the Year in the Southeast Region after the Wolfpack reached the 50-win plateau, secured its first NCAA Tournament berth, and earned both ACC regular season and tournament titles.

“We’re excited to have Michelle rejoin the program,” said Georgia head coach Lu Harris-Champer.  “She did a great job at N.C. State last season after a stellar career in Athens.  Michelle is a special individual who cares about the athletes and has a very positive outlook.”

A native of Duluth, Ga., Green concluded her playing career in 2005 as the greatest pitcher in Georgia Softball history.  She is Georgia’s all-time leader in wins (104), ERA (1.30), shutouts (47.5) and strikeouts (1070).  She earned All-America honors in 2003 after going 39-8 with a 1.10 ERA and 407 strikeouts.  As a senior, Green posted a 27-4 record with 272 strikeouts in 187.1 innings of work, sporting a 1.35 ERA.

“Michelle was a two-time All-American here at Georgia and played a significant role in leading the program to two SEC Championships and four consecutive NCAA postseason appearances,” said Harris-Champer.
