ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's track and field teams recorded a host of strong performances during the first day of the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday.

Sophomore Martin Maric continued his solid outdoor showing by winning the discus with a throw of 183 feet and senior Chad McClendon took second with an effort of 182.  Although not their top marks of the season, both Maric and McClendon had NCAA regional qualifying marks in the event.

On the women's side, freshman Josipa Jelicic registered a discus throw of 158-6, which is another regional mark, to finish second in the event.

In the women's long jump, junior Shenae Dawkins battled for a third-place finish (18-10) and junior Sarah Gretzmacher took sixth with a mark of 18-1.  In addition, freshman Kevin Dickson finished in fourth place in the men's long jump with an effort of 21-11.75.

A pair of Georgia distance runners finished in the top-10 in their respective 3,000-meter steeplechase races.  While sophomore Sarah Madebach took sixth place and missed the regional cut by just .29 (10:50.59), junior Sam Gillespie finished in sixth with a time of 9:13.65, which is the ninth-fastest time in school history.

Also, freshman Julianne Toto tied her own 10th-best mark in the Georgia record books by jumping 11-5.75 to tie for 11th in the pole vault.
