ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Brendon Todd had his best finish of the season on Tuesday in leading the No. 1-ranked Georgia men's golf team to a tie for fourth place at the inaugural United States Collegiate Championship at The Golf Club of Georgia.
Todd finished tied for second at 4-under 212, including a 70 in the final round. The junior was just one shot behind medalist Stephen Poole of Clemson and he was tied with Wake Forest's Webb Simpson. Todd's best finish before Tuesday was a third-place effort at the Puerto Rico Classic in February.
Playing on the Lakeside Course's par-72, 7,020-yard layout, the Bulldogs shot a 3-under 285 in the final round -- the only team under par on Tuesday -- to close at 12-over 876. Georgia finished tied for fourth with tournament host Georgia Tech, while the team title went to Clemson at even-par 864.
"I was real proud of the way our team came back and played in the final round," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We were 17 shots behind after Monday and it would have been easy for the guys to mail it in. But instead, they came back and played with a lot of focus and a lot of pride. I think our final round is a real positive as we head into a pretty important stretch of our season."
Junior Chris Kirk followed Todd at 5-over 221 as he shot a 69 in the final round and finished in a tie for 19th. Senior Kevin Kisner placed 29th at 7-over 223 after closing with a 76. Senior Richard Scott (72) and freshman Michael Green (74) finished in the tie for 34th at 9-over 225, as did freshman Adam Mitchell (74) who played as an individual.
