Georgia Softball Earns Top 10 Preseason Ranking

Georgia Voted Preseason No. 11 In Softball
ESPN.com/USA Today Poll released Tuesday

ATHENS, Ga. --- The defending Southeastern Conference champion Georgia Bulldogs will enter the 2006 season as the No. 10-ranked softball team in the country according to the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Preseason Poll released on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs earned 411 total points in the poll, placing ahead of No. 11 Baylor (386) and No. 12 Oklahoma (371).

Georgia is also ranked No. 11 in the preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll.

The Southeastern Conference has five teams represented in the poll. No. 3 Tennessee, No. 6 Alabama, Georgia, No. 17 Auburn and No. 19 Florida give the SEC five squads in the top 25.

Georgia opens its season on Feb. 10 in Miami, Fla., when it takes on Arkansas in first round action of the Florida International Diamond Fun and Sun Classic. The Bulldogs open their home slate on Feb. 17 when they host the Third Annual Georgia Softball Classic.
