Athens, Ga. --- The Georgia women's golf team hopes its 2005-06 regular-season schedule will provide a sign of good things to come.

Appearances at the site of three post-season tournaments -- and the 34th edition of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic -- headline the schedule which was released by head coach Todd McCorkle on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs will open their campaign in less than three weeks at the Cougar Fall Classic on Sept. 12-13 in Charleston, S.C.

During the fall, Georgia will travel to the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn., site of the 2006 SEC Championships on April 14-16. Next spring, the Bulldogs will compete in both the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C., and the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. Those courses will later serve as the site of the NCAA East Regional and the NCAA Championships, respectively.

Georgia also will host the Liz Murphey Collegiate at the UGA Golf Course on March 24-26. The event originated in 1973 and is one of the oldest continuous events in any sport in women's college athletics.

"The fall should be great for us," McCorkle said. "We're basically going to be based in the Southeast where it's convenient to travel. That will give our freshmen an opportunity to get adjusted without missing a lot of school work. Plus, they're challenging tournaments.

"In the spring, we'll play against some teams we don't see very often," McCorkle continued. "We have two trips out West, and we'll get a chance to prepare for the post-season by playing on the (NCAA) Championships course at Ohio State."

The Bulldogs' roster will feature eight talented golfers fighting daily for a spot in the five-player lineup for each tournament.

Kelly Froelich and Whitney Wade were honorable mention All-America selections a year ago, while Jackie Beers and Lisa Tyler also were regulars in Georgia's playing five. Sophomore Sarah Donald did not crack the lineup last season but had an impressive summer which included a runner-up finish at the Georgia Women's Open.
