Browns Summit, N.C. --- An amazing finish pushed the No. 4-ranked Georgia women's golf team into a tie atop the team leaderboard with top-ranked Duke after the opening round of Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Champions Course here on Friday.
The Bulldogs played the final four holes at 6-under and finished with a 4-under 284, the sixth-best score in Georgia women's golf annals.
"We finally made some putts today," head coach Todd McCorkle said. "If this team plays well and makes putts, I feel like we're good enough to be in contention to win every week. It's always great to finish strong like we did today. We've put ourselves in good position."
Georgia and Duke are six shots ahead of No. 15 Florida, which shot 290. Rounding out the top-10 teams are No. 10 Tennessee (291), No. 14 Tulane (293), No. 21 Furman (293), N.C. State (296), No. 3 Auburn (301), No. 9 Wake Forest (303) and Virginia (304).
