ATHENS, Ga.----- Track and field gets underway for its second outdoor meet of the year this Saturday in Atlanta at Georgia Tech's Yellow Jacket Invitational.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will travel a stacked roster of 29 men and 30 women to the meet, which begins bright and early at 8 a.m.
The teams are coming off a very successful meet at Clemson, where Georgia's throws corps particularly excelled and both men's and women's relays got to test their training at a variety of distances.
"This is a good early season test because the level of competition is high," head coach Wayne Norton said of the upcoming meet. "We should win a few events and have several people in the top three. The weather is going to be great so it will be a chance to get some early-season bests and personal bests."
At last year's Yellow Jacket Invitational, eight Georgia athletes combined to win five events including current squad members Ian Dickinson (3000 meters), LaRon Bennett (400-meter hurdles) and a 4x400 meter relay team of Andrell Roberts, Shaun Foster, David Dickens and Bennett. Bennett (400-meter hurdles) and the relay team will compete in the same events Saturday to defend their titles.
"Our men's and women's teams are enthusiastic about the meet this weekend," Norton said. "Our distance runners should have a good showing and make us a lot more balanced. It should be a productive meet for Georgia."
The Yellow Jacket Invitation begins with the throwing events at 8 a.m. Saturday.
