Winston-Salem, N.C. --- The No. 16-ranked Georgia women's golf team fired a 10-over 294 in Friday's first round of the NCAA East Regional at the Salem Glen Country Club. The Lady Bulldogs are third in the 21-team field, six shots of tourney-leading Duke.

"Obviously, we got out and try to win every tournament we play in, but here the most important thing is to advance," head coach Todd McCorkle said. "We've put ourselves in a very good position to where, if we go out and play solid the next two days, we'll get to go to the NCAA Championships. That's our goal this week."

No. 18 Florida State shot 290 and was second. Following Georgia were: No. 10 Vanderbilt at 295, No. 7 Auburn at 298, East Carolina at 300, North Carolina at 301, at No. 7 Arizona, No. 17 South Carolina at N.C. State at 303.

The Lady Bulldogs received counting rounds from senior Summer Sirmons and sophomore Natalia Nicholls, who both carded 1-over 72s, and freshmen Lisa Tyler and Kelly Froelich, who shot 74 and 76, respectively. Freshman Jackie Beers posted a 77.
