Myrtle Beach, S.C. --- Georgia's impressive run through the Hooters National Match Play Championship ended with a gut-wrenching 3-2 loss to top-ranked Duke in Tuesday's championship match.

With the score tied 2-2, the Blue Devils clinched the title with a dramatic 19-hole victory by Virada Nirapathpongporn over Kelly Froelich at the No. 5 position.

Froelich led entering the 18th hole of the match and then watched a 15-foot putt which would have won the championship do a 360 around the cup before spinning out. Nirapathpongporn then won the first playoff hole.

"We played great," head coach Todd McCorkle said. "We played toe-to-toe with Duke and came up just a little bit short. Were taking nothing but positives from this week. We proved we can play with anyone. Had this been a stroke play tournament, we probably would've won. We just had some incredibly unfortunate breaks to lose."
