Auburn, Wash. --- The No. 10-ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs completed an impressive run at the 2002 NCAA Championships with their best round of the 72-hole tournament on Friday. The Lady Dogs carded a 4-over 292 in the final round and finished fifth overall at 1176.
"I think the expectation at the University of Georgia is to go out and compete for a national championship, and we did that," head coach Todd McCorkle said. "This team fought through a lot of adversity and to finish fifth at the NCAAs is a real testament of their character."
Individually, junior Summer Sirmons tied for second at 5-under 285, and senior Angela Jerman finished sixth at 4-under 286, marking only the second time in Georgia annals two Lady Bulldogs have finished in the top-10 at the NCAAs. In 1999, Shauna Estes finished third and Reilley Rankin placed ninth to lead Georgia to a runner-up finish.
