Athens, Ga. --- Kelly Froelich, a native of Paris, France, who now attends Saddlebrook Preparatory School in Wesley Chapel, Fla., has signed a letter-of-intent to play golf collegiately for the University of Georgia, head coach Todd McCorkle announced on Tuesday.
"Kelly has tons of experience," McCorkle said. "She's played in tournaments all over the world. She's going to be a great addition to our program and should make an immediate impact. Along with the signing of Jackie (Beers) and Lisa (Tyler) during the early signing period, we have an outstanding class joining our program this fall."
Froelich is currently ranked No. 20 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index for girls. Over the past two years, she has played in 46 events, posting 39 top-10 finishes and two more top-20 efforts. In 85 rounds during that span, Froelich recorded a stroke average of 76.42.
At last fall's American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Polo Golf Junior Classic, Froelich tied for 12th in stroke play after shooting 2-over 146. She advanced to the semifinals of match play competition before falling to Aree Song Wongluekiet, the eventual champion.
Georgia's Lady Bulldogs, one of the premier teams in the nation for more than two decades, captured their first-ever team national championship last spring. Georgia also has produced three individual national champs. McCorkle, who led Arizona to the 2000 NCAA title before coming to UGA, became only the second coach in NCAA Division I history to win back-to-back national titles at different schools.
