Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia --- Laura Matthews, assistant coach for Georgia's Lady Bulldog golf team, carded a 1-under 71 during Thursday's second round of the World Amateur Team Championship at the Saujana Golf & Country Club.

Matthews is at 1-under 145 halfway through the 72-hole event and among four golfers tied for sixth place individually. She climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard during the second round. Italy's Tullia Calzavara leads the individual field at 5-under 141.

Matthews played the front half of Saujana's Palm Course at 2-over with bogeys at No. 3 and No. 8. She rebounded to post a trio of birdies on the back nine at No. 10, No. 13 and No. 15.

In the team competition, Matthews' efforts have led Canada to a tie for 13th place. The Canadian contingent is at 6-over 298 through two rounds, 14 shots behind Thailand, the tournament leader.

Each team, which has two or three players, plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores by players from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72 holes) total is the team's score for the championship.

Matthews, a three-time runner-up at the Canadian Ladies Amateur, was a four-time All-SEC performer for Georgia's Lady Bulldogs from 1998-2001 and helped Georgia capture the 2001 NCAA Championship.

Live scoring for the tournament can be found at: http://www.golfstatlive.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=199. Matthews will tee of at 8:50 a.m. Malaysia time on Friday, which is 8:50 p.m. ET on Thursday night in the U.S.
