Marissa King joined the Georgia gymnastics staff as assistant coach in May 2024 after spending two seasons at Nebraska.
The Georgia GymDogs made tremendous improvements in King’s first season as assistant coach. The GymDogs recorded six consecutive meet totals of 197.000 or higher, achieving the sixth highest regular season meet score in program history against Oklahoma (197.975)- the highest since the regular season of 2009. For the first time since 2019, the GymDogs secured a national seed in the NCAA Tournament, ranking tenth heading into regionals. Lily Smith and Ady Wahl individually qualified for nationals on floor and vault, respectively, and garnered First Team All-American accolades. Lily Smith finished fifth overall on floor. Smith also earned WCGA regular season All-American status. Additionally, Lily Smith received All-SEC honors, while Nyla Aquino was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. The team averaged 9,193 attendees at home meets in 2025, the highest average since 2020, with a total attendance of 45,965 across five competitions in Stegeman.
As an assistant coach at Nebraska, King served as one of the lead coaches on floor in 2023-24, after being promoted to the role of assistant coach for the Huskers. King aided NU in earning three scores above 197.000 in the last three meets of the regular season. The last time the Huskers earned three scores in a row that surpassed the 197.000 mark was 2003.
With King’s help, 11 Nebraska athletes notched career highs during 2023-24, including six on the floor. The Huskers’ NQS score on the floor was 49.400 and the team ended the season tied for 21st nationally in the event.
King spent 2022-23 as a volunteer assistant coach for the Huskers.
King spent the past 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons as a choreographer and club gymnastics coach in Birmingham, Alabama, and Austin, Texas. She also spent the 2022 season as a gymnastics analyst for ESPN and the SEC Network. King was an artistic acrobat in Cirque du Soleil from 2014 to 2020, performing with Amaluna (2014-18) and Alegria (2018-20).
One of the most decorated collegiate gymnasts, King competed for the University of Florida (2010-13). She was the national champion on vault in 2011 and finished her career as an 11-time All-American. King led the Gators to three SEC Championships (2010, 2012, 2013) and the program's first NCAA Championship in 2013. She also earned All-SEC honors in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Prior to her collegiate career, King competed as an all-arounder for Great Britain in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. King was named the Cambridge and District Sportswoman of the Year, and the Cambridge and Peterborough Young Sports Personality in 2007. King trained at Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastics Club under coaches Paul Hall and Monica Desalermos.
King served as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida in 2014, helping the Gators to back-to-back national championships.
A dual-major in geography and mass communications, King earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida in August of 2014. She is married to assistant coach, Oleksii Koltakov, and the couple has one son, Leon.
