Mimi Burke was named Georgia’s assistant coach in July 2017. Burke, who was a standout collegiate golfer at Appalachian State, spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Purdue.
“Mimi has embraced the culture and history of women’s golf at the University of Georgia,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “She has helped raise accountability and the competitive spirit during her time in Athens. Mimi is a tireless worker who our student-athletes respect and adore and want to learn from. It’s exciting watching her grow in her position and at the same time help our program in its quest to reach the top level of women’s golf.”
Prior to her stint with the Boilermakers, Burke was the assistant professional at River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C., and she also worked with the PGA’s Valero Texas Open in San Antonio.
While in West Lafayette, Burke helped the Boilermakers secure NCAA bids during both 2016 and 2017, including advancing to the NCAA Championships and tying for 11th place there during her final season. Individually, August Kim captured medalist honors at the 2016 Big Ten Championships and earned All-America and WGCA All-American Scholar accolades during 2016 and 2017.
At River Run, Burke helped with the staging of several tournaments, including the Web.com Tour’s Chiquita Classic, and assisted with golf operations including youth camps and tourneys.
Burke’s duties with the Texas Open included coordinating the PGA Tour event’s Executive Women’s Day, developing the player handbook and overseeing player activities with local companies. She also oversaw ticket elements, supervised hospitality tents and provided additional support throughout the tournament staff.
Burke was a four-year letterwinner at Appalachian State from 2009-13, where she posted the 10th-best stroke average in school history. She notched a career-best fourth-place finish at the 2012 Dayton/Hilton Head Invitational and also recorded the seventh-best 54-hole score ever by a Mountaineer at the 2012 Morehead State Ocala Invitational.
Burke graduated from the Cannon School in 2009, where she played for both the boys’ and girls’ golf teams. She was selected as MVP of the girls’ team in 2009 after receiving the Coach’s Award for her performances with the boys’ team during the 2008 season. As a senior, Burke earned All-Conference honors while posting a 39.8 stroke average for the girls’ team during the fall. She then notched a 78.33 average competing for the boys’ squad the following spring.
A native of Mooresville, N.C., Burke earned her bachelor’s degree in management from Appalachian State in 2013. Burke comes from an athletic family. Her father, Patrick, played hockey at Canisius and her brother, Brendan, was a standout for the crew and golf programs at Vermont.
