ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia's Kanon Catchings is one of dozen premier wing players in college basketball set to take part in the Jayson Tatum Elite Camp next week in Las Vegas.
Catchings, a 6-9, 220-pound rising junior from Brownsburg, Ind., started 32 of 33 games and averaged 11.6 points per game for the Bulldogs last season. He emerged as one of the SEC's more explosive players in league play. After scoring 8.8 points in November and December, Catchings upped those contributions by 4.9 points per game – to 13.7 ppg – in SEC action. He shot a league-leading 45.4 percent from 3-point range in SEC play while finishing fourth in 3-pointers per game (2.7 3FGs pg).
Overall, Catchings posted 18 double-figure scoring outputs, with five 20-point outings and a career-high 32 points in an upset of No. 16 Alabama. Of those, 14 double-figure and all five 20-point performances came against SEC competition. He capped the regular-season by earning SEC Player of the Week honors after averaging 27.5 points while shooting 59.4 percent (19-of-32) from the field and 60.0 percent (12-of-20) from 3-point range in key late-season wins over Alabama and Mississippi State to lock up the Bulldogs' second straight NCAA Tournament bid.
Tatum's Camp will be held June 30-July 3 and include on- and off-court training with Tatum and some basketball's of the top instructors.
Tatum was the No. 3 overall pick by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft. A six-time NBA All-Star and four-time first-team All-NBA performer, Tatum helped lead the Celtics to the 2024 NBA Championship and won Gold Medals at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.
