No. 15 Georgia Ties Clemson, 1-1, in Non-Conference Finale

September 07, 2025 | Soccer

CLEMSON, S.C. – Redshirt junior midfielder Summer Denigan's sixth goal of the year helped the University of Georgia soccer team draw Clemson, 1-1, in its non-conference finale Sunday evening before 700 spectators at Historic Riggs Field.

Fast Facts
  • After surrendering a seventh-minute goal by Juju Harris, Georgia (4-2-2) found a quick equalizer as an unassisted Denigan struck from 20 yards out in the ninth minute for her sixth score of the season, moving her into a tie for third place in the SEC. Denigan's six goals in non-conference are the most by a Bulldog since Mollie Belisle scored 10 in the 2021 slate.
  • Clemson (3-1-3) outshot Georgia by a 10-6 margin, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on frame. Harris led all players with five shots, while Denigan topped the Bulldogs' count with two. Following Denigan's goal, the Bulldogs only tallied one more shot on goal, a shot from freshman forward Hailey Gordon in the 55th minute.
  • Freshman Hannah Folliard posted four saves, the second-most of her young Georgia career. Folliard joined teammates Denigan, Maddy Herniter, and Kiera Staude in playing a full 90 minutes for the Bulldogs.
  • Sunday's match marked the third-consecutive 1-1 result between Georgia and Clemson. In the 2023 regular season, Denigan scored her first career goal in a draw at the Turner Soccer Complex, followed a 1-1 contest in the NCAA Third Round later that season at Riggs Field (Clemson advanced on penalty kicks, 5-3).

Post-Match Quotes
Georgia Head Coach Keidane McAlpine
On the match…
"Once again, we gave up an early goal and had to chase the game. But I thought we did a good job of staying with the game, getting our goal back. It's disappointing to let that goal happen when we had so much of the ball, so many opportunities to pin them in. But I also thought they were really dangerous on the break, so I thought our goalkeeper and our defense held up pretty well, and now we've got to figure out how to convert more on the offensive end."

On preparing for the SEC opener at Texas A&M…
"Clearly, teams are playing with six in the back, five in the back, so we're going to have to spend more time breaking those things down. We've played three teams that have pinned them in, so we need to break that down."
