No. 1 Bulldogs Sweep No. 19 California, Punch Ticket to NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 1 Georgia women's tennis team (26-3, 13-2 SEC) punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships after sweeping No. 19 California (15-9, 9-3 ACC), 4-0, in the NCAA Super Regional at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Friday.

  • The Bulldogs have now advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships for a third-consecutive season.
  • Georgia improved to 14-7 all-time against California, marking a second-straight season in which the Bulldogs have eliminated the Golden Bears in the NCAA Super Regionals after doing so with a 4-2 win in 2024.
  • Georgia remains undefeated in tournament-style competition this spring, improving to 10-0 between winning the 2025 ITA National Team Indoor Championships (four wins), the 2025 SEC Tournament (three wins) and the opening three rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
  • The Bulldogs opened the day with doubles point. On court three, Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry cruised to a 6-2 victory over Berta Passola Folch and Naomi Xu before #68 Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata knocked off Greta Greco Lucchina and Lan Mi, 6-4, on court two to secure the doubles point.
  • In singles, #42 Mert was a force on court four, dominating all match long to cruise past Passola Folch, 6-1, 6-0 to doubles Georgia's lead at 2-0.
  • #74 Grant followed up with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Greta Greco Lucchina on court five, giving the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead while marking her 100th career collegiate singles victory.
  • Sofia Rojas secured the clinch for a second match in a row, defeating Xu, 6-2, 6-4, on court six to earn Georgia's 17thsweep of the season.
  • The Bulldogs have won three-consecutive matches and four of their last five when singles courts 4-6 earn victories.
