May 15, 2025 | Baseball

DALLAS – University of Georgia standouts Robbie Burnett and Ryland Zaborowski have been named semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear; it was announced Thursday.

Burnett and Zaborowski have been among the nation's top sluggers this season in helping fourth-ranked Georgia to a 40-13 mark. Zaborowski leads the team with a .372 batting average plus has 16 home runs and 58 RBI in 40 games including 39 starts. Burnett has a team-high 19 home runs, 63 RBI and 16 stolen bases to go with a .309 batting average in 52 games with 51 starts. Burnett has made starts at all three outfield spots plus second base and designated hitter. Zaborowski has started at first base, third base and designated hitter.

The Dick Howser Trophy goes to the nation's top player following two rounds of national voting by the Howser Committee and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The 2025 finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 7.  The winner will be unveiled on the MLB Network in a special national presentation in Omaha, Neb., on June 13 before this year's NCAA College World Series. In 2024, Georgia's Charlie Condon swept the national awards including the Dick Howser Trophy.

This year's candidates hail from 39 different schools, and the Southeastern Conference leads with 17 semifinalists. The Dick Howser Trophy is given in memory of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987. The trophy is regarded as baseball's most prestigious award. Criteria for consideration of the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage – all qualities that were exemplified by Dick Howser's life.

The fourth-ranked Bulldogs will finish the SEC regular season with a three-game series against Texas A&M starting Thursday at Foley Field. First pitch will be at 6:02 p.m. and be available on SECN+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
