No. 3 Georgia Makes First Trip To No. 5 Texas

ATHENS, Ga.-----Third-ranked Georgia continues Southeastern Conference action Friday as the Bulldogs make their first-ever visit to No. 5 Texas. First pitch will be at 7:32 p.m. EDT (SECN+). 

Saturday's game will start at 3:02 p.m. EDT on SECN+ while Sunday's game begins at 2:02 p.m. EDT (SECN+). The entire series will be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.

The Bulldogs (29-2, 8-1 SEC) opened league play with a series win over No. 23 Kentucky here, then swept No. 13 Florida in Gainesville and No. 11 Auburn in Athens. The Longhorns (23-4, 8-1 SEC) are tied atop the SEC standings with the Bulldogs, top-ranked Tennessee and No. 2 Arkansas. Texas swept Mississippi State in Starkville, took two of three from then No. 2 LSU in Austin and swept Missouri in Columbia.

The Bulldogs are a consensus top five squad in year two of the Wes Johnson era. Georgia is 21-1 at home, 6-1 on the road and 2-0 at neutral sites this season. The Bulldogs are batting .324 with a .629 slugging percentage and an NCAA-leading 84 home runs. They have a .466 on base percentage with 204 walks, been hit 81 times plus are 45-for-50 in stolen bases. Georgia has posted a 4.79 ERA with 311 strikeouts and 141 walks. Opponents are batting .225 against the Bulldogs. 

Texas has a 3.13 ERA with 239 strikeouts and 97 walks this season. Opponents are batting just .215 against the Longhorns with only 14 home runs. Texas is batting .299 with 47 home runs, a .537 slugging percentage and a .400 on base percentage. 

Texas holds a 3-1 edge in the series history with Georgia. The teams last met at the 2004 College World Series as Texas won twice (9-3, 7-6). Before that, the only other meetings came in April of 1912 when the teams split a two-game series in Athens, Ga. Texas won the opener 9-3 while the Bulldogs posted a 10-2 victory in the second game.
