Bulldogs Down Aggies, Win 11th SEC Tournament Championship

April 20, 2025 | Women's Tennis

AUBURN, Ala. — The No. 2 ranked and 2-seeded Georgia women's tennis team (23-3, 13-2 SEC) won its third-consecutive Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship after knocking off No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Texas A&M (25-3, 14-1 SEC), 4-2, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Sunday.

Fast Facts
  • The Bulldogs secured their 11th SEC Tournament title as well as their second conference tourney three-peat in program history, replicating the three-year title winning stretch from 2007-09. Georgia joins Florida as the only two programs in SEC history to accomplish this feat.
  • Georgia has now won four SEC Tournament titles in the last five seasons, facing Texas A&M in each final.
  • The Bulldogs are now 22-6 all-time against the Aggies while improving to a perfect 9-0 record on neutral courts this season, earning seven combined wins in tournament-style matches on route to winning the 2025 ITA National Team and SEC Tournament titles.
  • Georgia earned the doubles point to open the afternoon as the #74 tandem of Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata struck first with a 6-3 win over Mia Kupres and Daria Smetannikov on court two. With Texas A&M pulling for a court one win, the court three duo of Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry pulled through to take down Nicole Khirin and Lexington Reed, 6-4, and secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs.
  • In singles, both sides split first sets at three apiece as Mell Reasco was sharp on court three, cruising past #72 Kupres, 6-3, 6-1, to double Georgia's lead at 2-0.
  • #54 Mert played a smart game through two sets, holding off several second set comeback bids to defeat #51 Perez, 6-3, 6-1, on court four to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.
  • After back-to-back singles wins on court one and six for Texas A&M, #85 Grant battled through several match points to defeat #102 Smetannikov, 6-2, 7-5, on court five to secure the clinch and the title for Georgia.
  • Two Bulldogs in Grant and Mert were voted to the All-Tournament Team while Grant also took SEC Tournament MVP Honors with three doubles wins and three singles wins through three rounds of play.
