ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia swimming and diving teams will join seven institutions for the inaugural The Dual Meet Tournament this fall at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center.
Georgia will join Army, Auburn, Florida State, George Washington, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, and NC State for a first-of-its-kind, two-day, dual meet tournament event, running Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18 in Atlanta, the site of next season's NCAA Men's and Women's Championships.
The event will begin Friday with two quarterfinal dual meets in the morning (8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.), followed by semifinal dual meets in the afternoon (3 p.m., 6 p.m.). The remaining teams will compete in final meets on Saturday, beginning with the fifth- and seventh place meets at 8:30 a.m., followed by the third place meet at 11:30 a.m. and the final at 2:30 p.m.
For each wave of meets, a specific draw of events will be selected, guaranteeing at least one 100-yard and one 200-yard event of each stroke. Each team will carry 16 swimmers and two divers, with each swimmer participating in a maximum of three events and divers performing three dives apiece on both springboards. The team scores for both men's and women's teams will be combined during each dual meet to determine the winner.
