No. 5 Georgia Faces No. 14 Tech At Truist Park To Benefit CHOA

ATHENS, Ga.-----Fifth-ranked Georgia returns to action Tuesday when it faces 14th-ranked Georgia Tech at Truist Park in the Spring Classic to benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). First pitch will be at 7 p.m., and will be carried on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
The Bulldogs (32-6) are the home team this year. Georgia leads 14-7 in the Spring Classic series that has been played in the Atlanta Braves stadium or their Triple-A park since 2003. In the all-time series, Georgia holds a 221-169-2 edge as it dates to 1898. The teams met four times last year with three finishing as the Bulldogs won 3-1 in Athens and 11-9 at Coolray Field for CHOA during the regular season. Then, Georgia ended Tech's season, beating them 8-6 (10) to win the NCAA Athens Regional.    Â
Georgia is a consensus top five squad in year two of the Wes Johnson era. The Bulldogs are 24-2 at home, 6-4 on the road and 2-0 at neutral sites this season. The Bulldogs are coming off a huge series win over top-ranked Arkansas at Foley Field. After dropping the opener 13-3, the Bulldogs posted two straight 7-6 wins including a 12th-inning walk-off home run by senior Henry Hunter on Sunday. Tech, under Danny Hall, is 29-7 this year. They have swept their past two ACC series over Stanford and Cal. Tech enters Tuesday having won seven of their past eight contests, the lone loss an 9-8 decision in Atlanta last week to ninth-ranked Auburn.Â

JT Quinn (0-1, 2.50 ERA), Jr., RHP vs. Brett Barfield (0-0, 2.00 ERA), Jr., LHP
Both teams will employ a staff night on the mound. Quinn makes his 11th appearance including his fifth start with 18 innings pitched on the season. He has 22 strikeouts and 10 walks. Barfield makes his 13th appearance and first start with nine innings pitched on the year. He has 11 strikeouts and four walks.

The Hitting, Pitching And The Defense
The Bulldogs are batting .307 with a .600 slugging percentage and an NCAA-leading 98 home runs. They have a .441 OB% with 228 walks, been hit 88 times plus are 50-for-55 in stolen bases. The team's leading hitters are roommates Ryland Zaborowski (.405-16-54, .910 SLG%) and Robbie Burnett (.333-16-53, 12 SB). Recently, Zaborowski was named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, the NCBWA/Dick Howser Trophy National Hitter of the Month for March, a mid-season All-American by multiple outlets. Burnett made the second team mid-season All-America lists too. Junior Kolby Branch (.315-7-22) posted a fine week, blasting four homers with 12 RBI as Georgia went 3-1.
Tech is batting .341 with 58 home runs, an NCAA-leading 106 doubles, a .584 slugging percentage and a .445 on base percentage. They are 61-for-67 in stolen bases. The leading hitters are Kent Schmidt (.415-2-26), Kyle Lodise (.395-13-44) and Drew Burress (.368-12-46).
The Bulldogs have posted a 4.84 ERA with 397 Ks and 175 BBs. Opponents are batting .227 against Georgia. Tech has a 4.19 ERA with 346 Ks and 141 BBs this season. Opponents are batting .244 against Tech with 31 home runs.
Georgia's fielding percentage dipped to .982 when it made an uncharacteristic five errors this past Sunday and still won to claim a series over top-ranked Arkansas. Tech is fielding .974.      Â
