No. 1 Bulldogs Fall to No. 14 Texas, 4-2

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 1 Georgia women's tennis team (20-2, 13-1 SEC) suffered its first loss in Southeastern Conference play, falling to No. 14 Texas (14-9, 8-6 SEC) 4-2, at the Texas Tennis Center on Friday.

  • In doubles, Georgia opened the afternoon with a win on court one as the tandem of #5 Dasha Vidmanova and Mell Reasco knocked off No. 25 Ashton Bowers and Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo, 6-2. The Bulldogs fell on courts two and three to give Texas a 1-0 lead.
  • After falling on singles court four, #1 Vidmanova pulled one back to get Georgia on the board, defeating #56 Sabina Zeynalova, 6-1, 6-2, on court one to cut the deficit in half.
  • #55 Anastasiia Lopata followed up minutes later with a win on court two, knocking off No. 32 Carmen Herea, 6-2, 6-3, to level the match for the Bulldogs at 2-2 before the Longhorns earned wins on courts five and three to secure the match.
  • Vidmanova extended her singles winning streak to 12 matches, marking her second of the season with 12 or more consecutive victories.
  • After winning one of her first six matches to open SEC play, Lopata has now won six singles matches in a row through eight outings, improving her to 14-1 on the season.
