No. 4 Georgia Faces No. 23 Kentucky Friday In SEC Opener

ATHENS, Ga.-----Fourth-ranked Georgia, riding a 16-game winning streak, opens Southeastern Conference action here Friday against No. 23 Kentucky.

First pitch at Foley Field will be at 6:02 p.m. and fans are encouraged to wear red Friday. The entire series will be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network and streamed on SEC Network+.

The Bulldogs (19-1) are batting .315 with a 4.37 ERA and a .979 fielding percentage. Georgia's 46 home runs rank second nationally behind Tennessee (50). Also, the Bulldogs are second nationally in hits, hit by pitches and fourth in runs and walks. Graduate Rylan Zaborowski (.442-10-36) was named the NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy National Hitter of the Week and the SEC Co-Player of the Week. Last week in four games, he batted .438 with six home runs and 18 RBI. Currently, he leads the nation in Slugging Percentage (1.096) and is second in RBI. Also of note, sophomore Tre Phelps and senior Robbie Burnett have reached base in all 20 games this year.

The Wildcats (13-2) own a .295 batting average, a 1.89 ERA (2^nd nationally) and a .974 fielding percentage. Opponents are hitting just .175 against the Wildcats and have hit only three home runs. In 10 of UK's 15 games, it has held the opponent to two or fewer runs.

The Bulldogs, under the direction of Ike Cousins head coach Wes Johnson, are 14-0 at home this season while Kentucky is 5-1 on the road. Last year, Georgia headed to Lexington for the SEC opening series and was swept by the Wildcats. The Bulldogs rebounded to go 17-13 in league play while Kentucky won a share of the SEC with a 22-7 mark. Overall, Georgia leads the UK series 144-104-1 in records dating to 1921. Georgia assistants Will Coggin and Nick Ammirati once served on Kentucky's staff under coach Nick Mingione. One of Georgia's starting outfielders, Kentucky graduate Nolan McCarthy, who is one of Georgia's starting outfielders, was a catalyst on the Wildcats College World Series team a year ago.
