Urlando Resets American Record in 200 Fly on Final Day of UGA Invite

ATHENS, Ga. – Graduate Luca Urlando once again rewrote the record books on the final day of competition at the 2025 Georgia Fall Invitational Friday at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
 
The Georgia men finished second overall with 799 points, while the Georgia women took fourth place with 680.5 points.
 
Fast Facts
  • Men's 200y Butterfly – Urlando broke his previous American, NCAA, and U.S. Open records with a top time of 1:36.41, using a 26.38 split on his final 50 yards to best his record from last season's NCAA Championships by two-hundredths of a second. In prelims, Urlando took first with a time of 1:37.86 that ranks sixth in program history. He has now posted the five fastest 200-yard butterfly times in NCAA history, with all five coming in this calendar year. Sophomore Drew Hitchcock finished third with a personal-best NCAA cut of 1:40.46, becoming the eighth-fastest performer in program history. Senior Roman Valdez placed fourth with an NCAA cut of 1:43.21, following a PB of 1:41.88 in prelims.
  • Men's 200y IM – Senior Cale Martter took first with a season-best NCAA cut of 1:43.75, leading a second top three Bulldog sweep of the week in the individual medley. Sophomore Elliot Woodburn finished second with a personal-best time of 1:44.20, followed by freshman Finn Hammer in third with a PB of 1:44.57. Fellow freshman Finn Wendland placed seventh at 1:47.51, while freshman Sascha Macht won the consolation final with a PB of 1:45.99.
  • Men's 400y Freestyle Relay – Junior Tomas Koski, Urlando, sophomore Tane Bidois, and senior Ruard van Renen finished second with a season-best A-cut of 2:47.63, the second-fastest time in program history. Koski led off with a split of 42.86, while van Renen anchored with a time of 41.47.
  • Women's 400y Freestyle Relay – Sophomores Marie Landreneau and Katie Belle Sikes, along with seniors Emma Norton and Ieva Maluka finished third with a season-best 3:14.93. Landreneau led off with a time of 48.96, with Maluka closing at 48.78.
  • Women's 200y IM – Maluka finished third with a season-best NCAA time of 1:56.00, while fellow senor Olivia Della Torre place fifth at 1:59.39. Sophomore Charlotte Headland finished 11th with a PB of 2:01.29 with freshman Elizabeth Nawrocki tying for 13th with a season-best 2:02.17.
  • Men's 200y Backstroke – Freshman Hayden Meyers placed third with a personal-best NCAA time of 1:39.45, becoming the sixth-fastest performer in program history. In the morning session, Meyers finished first with a then-PB of 1:39.62. Elsewhere in the final, van Renen finished fourth with a season-best NCAA cut of 1:40.73, while senior Sam Powe placed fifth with an NCAA time of 1:41.04.
  • Women's 200y Butterfly – Freshman Izzy Beu finished fifth with a personal-best NCAA cut of 1:57.01, with junior Elizabeth Tilt in 10th at 2:00.94.
  • Women's 200y Backstroke – Freshman Clarke Neace placed sixth with a personal-best time of 1:55.68.
  • Men's 100y Freestyle – Bidois finished seventh with a time of 43.05. Freshman Luke Sandberg touched first in the 'C' final with a personal-best time of 43.22, followed by sophomore Will Gavin in 18th place with a PB of 43.30.
  • Women's 100y Freestyle – Landreneau took eighth with a time of 49.34, while Sikes won the consolation final with a season-best time of 48.74.
  • Men's Platform – Junior Matthew Bray finished 12th with a score of 276.15, closing out with a high score of 58.80 on his sixth dive.
  • Men's 1,650y Freestyle – In a morning time trial, freshman Sean Green earned an NCAA cut with his time of 15:00.75.
