ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog junior linebacker CJ Allen has been included as one of 20 semifinalists for the ninth annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, according to an announcement Tuesday.
Â
Allen, a native of Barnesville, Ga., is one of six semifinalists from the Southeastern Conference. He was selected due to his exemplary performances on the field and the leadership qualities he possesses. Â
Â
Three finalists will be named for the award on December 16. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on April 16, 2025.
Â
The winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year will also receive a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school's athletic scholarship fund. The contribution will be made by Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation, the official charity of Jason and his wife Michelle.
Â
Allen has been Georgia's leading tackler in five of six games, including the last five. He leads the team with 46 stops, including a team-high 5.5 tackles for loss and three sacks and ranks second in the SEC with an average of 7.67 tackles per game. Allen has been the anchor for the Bulldog defense that has allowed a combined seven points to three SEC opponents in the second half this season. The defense has kept opponents scoreless in a total of 12 periods this year.Â
Â
Most recently, Allen led the team in Georgia's come-from-behind victory at rival Auburn over the weekend. His stat line included 10 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one pass breakup and a pivotal forced fumble on the goal line. The Bulldogs recovered the fumble and marched from the 1-yard line all the way down the field for a field goal in the waning seconds of the second period to cut the deficit to 10-3.Â
Â
Allen is a Social Entrepreneurship for Consumer Well-Being major and has featured on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for three different semesters during his time in Athens. He has hosted youth football camps in Athens, Atlanta and his hometown of Barnesville. In the past, Allen has volunteered for Thanksgiving food drives and Christmas toy drives and often reads to students in hometown elementary schools. In partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation Check giveaway, he also worked at Camp Sunshine and Extra Special People (ESP) after practice at the Bulldog facility.
Â
No. 9 Georgia (5-1, 3-1 SEC) will play host to No. 5 Ole Miss (6-0, 5-0 SEC) on Oct. 18 in Athens. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the matchup will be televised on ABC.Â
